Domestic violence education and prevention programs
and training for health and human service professionals, schools and
community groups by staff and Board members. The Domestic Violence
Center also participates in community and health fairs. The Community
Education and Training component includes the following special programs:
- Outreach to the Latino population - ongoing collaborations
with La Comunidad Hispana (Kennett Square) and agencies serving
Chester Couniy's Latino population. Bilingual services are
available.
- Medical Advocacy - To enhance the health care community's
capacity to help survivors of domestic violence, DVCCC trains
health care providers to screen patients for domestic abuse and
provides
technical support to hospitals in developing policies and protocols
to respond to domestic violence.
- Local Police Training - DVCCC
collaborates with Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Family
Court and the District Attorney's
office to coordinate services and provide training for local
police departments.
- Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare -
DVCCC has provided training to staff of Pennsylvania Department
of Public Welfare
caseworkers in Chester and Delaware counties to enhance caseworkers'
capacity to identify and refer survivors for services.
- Schools - Educational programs on indicators and impact of dating abuse,
domestic abuse and healthy relationships.
- Community Education - DVCCC's newsletter, Lifelines' and program-specific brochures
keep the community informed about our work to enhance
safety and justice for those affected by domestic violence.
