Are You Being Abused?

Does the Person You Love...

  • Try to embarrass you, call you names or put you down?
  • Monitor what you do, who you see or talk to, or where you go?
  • Stop you from seeing your friends or family members?
  • Prevent you from working or attending school?
  • Always have to be the decision maker?
  • Sign your name to tax returns and checks, try to control your income or assets?
  • Tell you that you're a bad parent or threaten to take away or hurt your children?
  •  Do things that make you scared or frightened?
  • Tell you their actions are no big deal or tell you it's your fault?
  • Promise you they will never do it again?
  • Blame alcohol or drug abuse for their actions?
  • Destroy property or threaten to kill your pets?
  • Shove, slap, choke, hit or confine you?
  • Intimidate you with weapons like guns or knives?
  • Force you to have sex when you don't want to?
  • Try to convince you to drop the charges?
  • Threaten to kill you or themselves?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions...you may be involved in an abusive relationship.

If you are in an abusive relationship, you need to think SAFETY FIRST!

Living with a violent person can be more than scary, it can be life-threating. It is hard to make decisions when you are afraid and upset. Call our hotline and speak with trained advocates and counselors who are available to help you any time, day or night. They can assist in developing a safety plan or help to get you to a safe place using the resources DVCCC has available. Remember, safety needs to be your FIRST priority.
